Irish History
Ireland's history is long and varied , there is evidence of historical habitation dating back 5000 years.
The Irish people are descended from the Celts, and are related to other Celtic nations in Europe, namely Scotland, Wales and Britany in France.
The Irish Language "Gaelic" is similar to Scots Gaelic, and is spoken by most Irish people. However the main language is English.
Ireland became an independent state in 1922, and joined the European Union in 1973. Ireland today is enjoying peace and prosperity, as an active member state of the European Union.
